| Johannes Brahms: | Violin Concerto | |
| Richard Strauss: | Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks |
Manfred Honeck, a superb interpreter of Richard Strauss, conducts three of Strauss’ tone poems: Don Juan, Death and Transfiguration and Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks. Honeck and the PSO’s recent recording of Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben was received with great critical acclaim by The Guardian as “phenomenally played, with impertinent horn solos, mocking woodwind and gorgeous, sensual strings.” Grammy Award-winning violinist and Pittsburgh favorite, Joshua Bell returns for an impassioned performance of Brahms’ technically-demanding Violin Concerto. Bell plays with intensity, bravura and joyous rapture that only a master violinist can achieve.
