Described as one of the most supremely gifted organists of his generation, organist Paul Jacobs unites technical skills of the first order with probing emotional artistry. Among his numerous accolades, he is one of the youngest faculty member ever appointed at the famed The Juilliard School, where he has served as chairman of the organ department since 2004. Jacobs made musical history at the age of 23 when he played J.S. Bach’s complete organ works in an 18-hour marathon performance on the 250th anniversary of the composer’s death, and he has recently debuted works Michael Daugherty and Mason Bates, among others. His recording of Messiaen’s Livre du Saint Sacrement was awarded the Best Solo Instrumental Grammy of the Year – the first time a disc of solo organ music has ever received this honor.
This extraordinary recital, as part of the Paris Festival, includes works by French composers Vierne, Duruflé, Boulanger, and Messiaen. General admission tickets are $25 and 2011-2012 subscribers receive a 15% discount.
