2011 Community Partners Guest Artists, Boyz II Men

The Community Partners Program is an annual collaboration with 25 Pittsburgh area nonprofit organizations. In 2011, the PSO Community Partners Program celebrates its eighth year of this innovative approach to fund-raising and community partnership. Through the Community Partners Program, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra:

1. Builds mutually supportive relationships with fellow nonprofits in the Pittsburgh area
2. Provides a low-cost fundraising event for multiple organizations/helps participating
  diverse Partner nonprofits raise money
3. Expands visibility of Partner nonprofit organizations
4. Brings new and diverse constituencies to Heinz Hall for a performance
5. Offers a performance that features the PSO in concert with a diverse set of artists

Up to 25 Pittsburgh area nonprofits (501(c)(3) organizations) sign on as "Partners" for the concert. Each nonprofit Partner is asked to sell at least 50 tickets to the Community Partners Concert. Patrons may also call the PSO box office to buy a concert ticket, then earmarking the cost of their ticket purchase to benefit a participating Partner nonprofit of choice. All designated ticket revenue from the Community Partners Concert is distributed to the appropriate nonprofit Partner. Partners thereby have the ability to raise a significant amount of funding for their organization through the Community Partners Program. The PSO donates the orchestra services, and secures corporate sponsors to underwrite out-of-pocket costs associated with guest artist services and concert production. The Community Partners Concerts have raised more than $539,000 for partnering nonprofit groups since they began in 2004.

Through the Community Partners Program, the PSO has the opportunity to get to know and build relationships with a diverse set of Community Partners. The program process is intended to be one aspect of a larger process of building a reciprocal relationship with Partner organizations in the community

The Community Partners Program is one of several programs in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Diversity Plan. The Diversity Plan outlines a multifaceted approach to promoting conversations about diversity in orchestra settings, recruiting leadership and advisors for diversity initiatives, and building opportunities for performance on and off the orchestral concert stage to better reflect the diverse communities and audiences that orchestras serve.
