New Leadership Board   

The New Leadership Board was formed by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to assist in education programming and audience development.  The purposes of the NLB are:

  1. Develop new audiences for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and create opportunities for continued engagement with existing audiences.
  2. Act as an advocate of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
  3. Support the goals of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
  4. Cultivate members of the NLB as committed and educated patrons of orchestra music.

Membership Requirements

  1. Annual membership fee:  $50.00
  2. Hold a subscription to a Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra series of any type.
  3. Contribute yearly to the Pittsburgh Symphony's Annual Fund.
  4. Attend all NLB meetings unless excused in advance.
  5. Serve on at least one NLB or PSO committee, either ad hoc or standing.

Fiddlesticks

Fiddlesticks is a three-concert series, designed to introduce children, ages 4-10, to the world of classical music.  Kids can touch and play instruments, meet PSO musicians and more – all before a lively entertaining 45-minute concert.  NLB members work in conjunction with PSO Education and Community Engagement staff members.

Side-by-Side Concerts

Side-by-Side is an opportunity for area music students in grades 9-12 to have the once-in-a-lifetime experience of playing side-by-side with their PSO counterparts.  Applications for Side-by-Side players are mailed to high school music teachers in the fall and the concert is held in the spring.

Unlocking the Classics

Unlocking the Classics offers a series of free adult education lectures.  A PSO spokesman leads musically illustrated discussions related to one of the PSO's upcoming concerts.  PSO musicians join the spokesperson to discuss and demonstrate a specific composer's music.
