Violinist Claudia Mahave joined the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 1997, under Mariss Jansons’ tenure.

Born into a musical family in Santiago, Chile, she began her formal musical studies at age six. Throughout her training she participated in numerous festivals, such as Interlochen, masterclasses with Leon Spierer and the National Orchestra Institute. Prior to moving to the U.S. she served as Assistant Concertmaster for the Orquesta de Camara de Chile.


Mahave holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Universidad de Chile and a Master of Music Degree from Carnegie Mellon University. She lives in Squirrell Hill with her husband, PSO percussionist Chris Allen, and their two children.
